Accepted Insurances
CareFirst / BCBS
To make high-quality care accessible to all, not just those with resources; Radiant Hope Counseling participates with the following insurance providers:
Aetna
United / Optum
It is helpful to check your benefits before we begin so you feel clear on your coverage. Those covered under in-network insurances are ineligible for hourly private pay rates due to insurance policies. All insurance is verified and billed through Headway.
Applying for Limited Insurance Slots
Step 01
Initial Application
Contact the office expressing interest in one of the limited insurance slots. We will conduct a preliminary check to confirm coverage and determine if a slot is currently available for your specific plan.
Step 02
Clinical Consultation
We will schedule a brief consultation to ensure our trauma-informed approach is the right clinical fit for your needs, as insurance slots are reserved for specific treatment paths. After the consultation, will be sent the Insurance-Based Therapy Slot Application.
Step 03
Final Approval & Onboarding
Once approved, you will be invited to the client portal to complete your onboarding paperwork and secure your spot on my calendar.
Why there is an insurance application process
Doing long-lasting, deep-diving, and intensive work requires a great deal of education, self-care, and organization. In order to be able to provide a consistent level of care to all of my clients, I set boundaries around how often I choose to interact with insurance companies.
At Radiant Hope Counseling, I intentionally reserve half of my caseload for insurance-based clients. Because these spots are limited and in high-demand, there is an application process to ensure that care is allocated thoughtfully, rather than on a first-come basis.
Considerations for applicants include financial circumstances, current insurance coverage, current life stressors, and readiness for treatment.
Why would I choose to not use my insurance?
During our initial consult, we will explore your specific situation to ensure your plan of care truly serves you. Clients often select the out-of-pocket option for these key reasons:
-
"I prefer complete clinical confidentiality without a permanent diagnosis on my medical record"
-
"I want the flexibility of extended therapeutic sessions or multi-hour intensive deep-dive work"
-
"I support equitable care and have the resources to invest directly in my long-term healing".

Common Inquiries
How do sessions work—are they in person or virtual?
I provide both local and online care. For in-person visits, I am located at Hope & Wellness Healing Center (3500 Boston St, Suite 432) in Baltimore. Virtual sessions are hosted via a secure platform through Simple Practice and are available to any resident of Maryland, ensuring you can connect comfortably from your own safe space.
What can I expect during my intake session?
Before your first visit, you will spend about 15 minutes completing initial forms and questionnaires to help us prepare. The intake appointment lasts approximately 90 minutes and is structured as a natural conversation where we explore various aspects of your life. I encourage you to set boundaries from the start; you only share what you are ready to discuss. During the final 15 minutes, we will collaborate on a clear treatment plan to ensure we are aligned with your personal goals. This structured approach helps us stay focused on your healing from day one.
Are sliding scale options available?
At this time, I do not have any open sliding scale or pro-bono availability.

Why can't I use my insurance for Extended/Intensive Sessions?
Short answer: because insurance doesn't work how we need it to. Services over 60 minutes are not considered billable by insurance and must be billed private pay.
What payment options do you accept?
I accept private pay via all major credit cards, as well as Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards. Clients are typically enrolled in Autopay so that they are billed the same day of the provided service. Payment for private pay clients is through Simple Practice while insurance based clients are billed through Headway.
Payment &
Insurance
Standard individual 53-60 minute therapy sessions are $200. EMDR Intensives utilize a different rate structure based on the length and depth of the work. I believe in financial transparency and am happy to discuss these details during your initial consultation.

Can I use my out-of-network insurance benefits?
Yes. If you have out-of-network benefits and I am an out-of-network provider, I can provide you with a monthly Superbill (a detailed receipt) that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement for 16-60 minute sessions. I recommend calling your provider to verify your specific coverage for CPT code 90837.
