Our Therapeutic Approach
EMDR Therapy
Reprocessing past events to unlock your natural healing process. EMDR helps the brain integrate distressing memories so they no longer trigger the same level of emotional or physical distress.
Somatic Work
Nervous system regulation through body-centered awareness. By learning to tune into physical sensations, we create safety in the body and expand your capacity for emotional presence.
What to Expect in Trauma Therapy
Prep & Safety
We begin by building a foundation of emotional regulation. Before diving into past stories, we ensure your nervous system has the tools to feel grounded and secure in the present moment.

This includes building rapport, developing dependable coping skills that you can actually use, and learning how to turn toward our emotions without being flooded by them.
The Processing Phase
Using evidence-based approaches like EMDR, we gently process disturbing memories. The goal isn't just to talk about what happened, but to change how your body and brain store those experiences.

We will focus on identifying areas that you know logically are true but you can't get your emotional belief to change. Examples include, "I know my marriage is secure but I feel so scared they are going to leave", "I know I didn't deserve that abuse but a part of me says it is all my fault", or "I objectively know there is nothing else I could have done during that event but I can't stop replaying all the 'what ifs' in my head".Â
Common Questions About Trauma Therapy
How long does trauma treatment take?
The length of treatment is unique to every individual. While EMDR can often accelerate processing, healing from complex trauma is a journey, not a sprint. We will work together at a pace that feels sustainable for your nervous system.
Is EMDR safe for everyone?
Safety is my priority. Before beginning EMDR processing, we focus heavily on nervous system regulation and building a 'resourcing' toolkit. This ensures you have the internal stability needed to process difficult memories safely and effectively.
How often should I attend sessions?
Consistency is key for regulating the nervous system. Most clients find that weekly sessions provide the best momentum for deep trauma work. We also offer EMDR intensives for those ready to move at a more concentrated pace.
